SANTA NET ANNOUNCEMENT: CQ, CQ, CQ – SANTA NET on Christmas Eve!!!

CQ, CQ, CQ – SANTA NET on Christmas Eve!!!

This is a special way to share in the magic of Amateur Radio during the special night of Christmas Eve. Every year, Santa talks to our young folks via HAM Radio, as he works his way thru the skies across Middle Tennessee.

Here are the high points about the net. Full details are in the attached pdf, or available at https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1oh0-enVr7CcU1zNmNiTGUxNm8  Many thanks for Tony Proctor, KF4KFQ for sharing his time to help Santa chat with our young ones on Christmas Eve!

The time of year is once again approaching and Santa and a cast of characters will be making their way across the night skies of Middle Tennessee.

This year the 14th Annual Santa Net will be running across most of Middle Tennessee on the 145.21 (PL 173.8) system of linked repeaters (If there is no weather emergency) and this year, for many of those travelling, Santa will be answering QSO’s from the Echolink system (Node Number 258417 – Franklin Tennessee). The net will be at 7:00 PM and last as long as traffic holds. Net Control will begin calling for QSO’s with Santa after 7:15 PM. Please be considerate. Santa can not take everybody’s QSO at 7:15 so please if you can wait until a little later in the evening please do so…. Santa will appreciate it…. It is a busy night for him after all.

Santa will again be accepting special information about the younger listeners to the Santa.

Please forward any special information about your special little one to: tony.proctor@comcast.net. Please put “Elf Report” in the Subject Line. de KF4KFQ

For those who are not able to reach the net, or don’t have little ones in town to participate, please share this info with others who may be interested, so they can experience the wonder in a child’s eyes when they get to talk with Santa on Christmas Eve.

I am able to live the experience each year! My granddaughter visits from North Carolina each Christmas, and thanks to the Santa Net, can go to sleep knowing that Santa knows how to find her in Nashville, once Santa reassures her that he knows where she is, and has her special requests in his sack 🙂

Many Thanks and 73,

Cathy

The holiday season is upon us, but for those looking for some diversion from the festivities, here are a few things planned for the next few months.  More details about upcoming events, and memories from recent club activities will be available in the January 2017 PIC Newsletter. TEMA-AUXCOMM Spring 2016 Exercise – Announcement

Subject: TEMA-AUXCOMM Spring 2016 Exercise – Announcement

All-see below for more details on the TEMA (Tennessee Emergency Management Agency) sponsored AUXCOMM (Auxiliary Communications) Spring Exercise 2016.  I participated in the Spring and Fall exercises last year, and it was a great opportunity to learn and train with other amateurs and public safety served agencies.  Please note the deadline for registration is April 21st, 2016.  I am personally looking forward to the Spring exercise and will be assisting in exercise planning and a leadership position as part of the Incident Command System this year.  As a, exercise participant you can expect to train and interact with 100+ amateur radio operators, many of who are also members of public safety and the emergency management community.  Even if you are only able to be onsite for one of the exercise days, that will still be a valuable experience.  Any questions let me know and we can discuss, and also note further links and contact details below.

Thank You,

Jeff Pryor KC8NNO

TEMA-AUXCOMM Spring 2016 Exercise

The dates for the TEMA-AUXCOMM Spring 2016 Exercise are May 5th – 8th, 2016. The deadline to register is April 21st, 2016. The exercise will be held at the campus of the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy. The physical address for the site is 2161 Unionville – Deason Road, Bell Buckle, TN, 37020

The purpose of this exercise is to test the communications infrastructure between State and local agencies. This exercise is unique in that it invites all Tennessee Amateur Radio operators to participate. It is our desire that you will work with emergency management partners in your community to determine your level of preparedness for a major disaster or loss of critical infrastructure.

Those wishing to stay overnight on campus, or to have their meals provided through the campus cafeteria, will need to contact the academy’s business office in advance to place their reservation. Each participant must cover the cost of their own meals & lodging. The meals are reasonably priced (Breakfast $6, Lunch $8, and Dinner $9), and the rooms are college-dorm style (Cost per night is $63, which includes dinner on the day of check-in, plus breakfast and lunch the following day). The academy’s business office may be reached at 1.931.294.4111 or 1.800.747.8868. Additional information can be found on their website at http://www.attorneygeneral.state.tn.us/fire/tfaca/ ***IMPORTANT: Either a meal plan and/or dormitory reservation must be on file at the time of check-in to participate in this exercise (or, with the prior-approval from the Incident Commander)***

Please submit your registration form no later than April 21st, 2016. The link to register is: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ztvXxQNa3-Qxluxl3sohsFp2tFQJVs3zN3fAgWRqDH8/viewform
