The Society for the Preservation of Amateur Radio (SPAR) has their annual Winter Field Day to prepare for emergencies or natural disasters involving bitter cold temperatures, icy tree limbs, and frigid winds. This annual event is held on the last full January weekend.
This year, Winter Field Day will be from 1700 UTC on Jan. 28 (Saturday, 11:00 AM local) through 1700 UTC on Jan. 29 (Sunday, 11:00 AM local).
The club is looking for volunteers that can assist with this event. Please contact one of the club officers and let them know of your interest in making this event a success.
The official rules for this event are found on the SPAR web site. The object is to set up emergency-style communications and make as many contacts as possible during the 24‑hour period. The rules encourage as many contacts on as many bands and modes as possible except for 12, 17, 30 and 60 meters. Logs in Cabrillo format must be turned in to firstname.lastname@example.org prior to March 1st. Pictures, description of operations and logistics are encouraged and welcome.
